Detox Smoothies

Detox SmoothiesEnjoy these three nutritious and delicious detox smoothies. Fresh fruit smoothies are full of fiber which cleans the digestive tract. They are perfect any time of day — breakfast, snack, post-workout and as a healthy dessert.

Banana-Orange-Strawberry Smoothie

  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 banana, frozen
  • 6 strawberries, frozen
  • 1/2 cup water with 1 T skim milk, or 1/2 cup soy milk
  • 1 scoop high- quality protein powder (optional)
  • 1 T ground flax seed (optional)

In a blender, process all the ingredients until thoroughly mixed and serve.

Apricot-Pineapple Smoothie

  • 1/4 cup crushed pineapple
  • 1 fresh apricot, diced
  • 6 strawberries
  • 1/2 banana, frozen
  • 1 1/2 cup water plus1 T skim milk powder, or 1 cup soymilk
  • 1 heaping tbsp. high- quality protein powder (optional)
  • 1 tsp. flax seed oil (optional)

In a blender, process fruit with all the ingredients until smooth.

Mango Yogurt Smoothie

  • 1 large ripe mango, peeled and cut into a few chunks
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled and cut in half
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • Pinch of cardamom (optional)
    Mint, to garnish

Blend all ingredients except for the mint in a blender until very smooth and frothy. Taste and add sweetener if desired. Garnish with mint and drink immediately while still very cold!

TIP: Just before bananas become overripe, peel, half and freeze. This will make your smoothie nice and creamy.
